Best Selling Author Chris Grabenstein Skypes with Dayton Students

Chris Grabenstein, New York Times best selling author of Mr. Lemoncello's Library shared his wit and wisdom along with tips on improving one's craft as writers with Dayton Avenue School students. Students crafted questions that Mr. Grabenstein answered. 

Bowling for Fitness

Students in Mr. Henderson's class learn the skill of bowling while integrating teamwork and exercise.  Students are bowling and are getting aerobic exercise as the ball return.  Students work to get all their pins down in friendly competition.

Dayton Avenue Begins Teacher's College Opinion Writing Unit of Study


As part of our Balanced Literacy structure since October faculty has worked with our Literacy Coach JeanMarie Zambelli and staff developer Christine Ikin from Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University to deepen our understanding of the Units of Study in writing.  This week we kicked off the opinion unit which is our first unit of study.  We are eager to work to support our students as they grow as writers.  Check out some of the photos of the unit of study in action across the building this week.

3rd Grade Writers Workshop

Students in Mrs. Rubin's class participate in Writers Workshop as students begin a unit of study from the Teachers College Writing Curriculum.  Students in grades 3 through 6 are all beginning with the opinion unit of study.
