Dayton Avenue School Flag Day Celebration

A Dayton Avenue School tradition continues as we honored the American Flag at our Annual Flag Day Celebration.  The band, chorus, and orchestra performed and students shared their American Flag essays.  We were delighted to have State Assemblyman Anthony Palumbo and Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine address our students.  We were also joined by Deputy Town Supervisor, Dan Panico, Manorville Fire Chief Howard Snow and American Legion Post 1545 Past Commander, John Doddard.

Character Matters Too!

Recently, 3rd grade students in Mrs. Van Tronk, Mrs. Dries, and Mrs. Lucia’s class performed, Character Matters Too!  The children embedded the PBIS principles we teach into their production.  Students performed for the entire school and parents as well.  Enjoy the video below.

Dayton Avenue School Wipes Away Bullying

Dayton Avenue sixth grade students Kasey McConnell, Kaitlyn Murphy, and Riley Connors enjoyed lunch recently with Dr. Christie.  These young ladies delivered a beautiful gift to the main office.  Kasey’s father wove a rug to be displayed at Dayton Avenue School.  A picture can say a thousand words. What a great example of kind and respectful behavior.

Dayton Avenue School Performs Peter Pan Junior

Students in grades 5-6 performed the inaugural elementary production of Peter Pan Jr.  Students worked tirelessly for months under the direction of faculty members, Mrs. Ruymen, Mrs. Puglissi, Mrs. Macleod, and Mr. Eaton.  We are grateful for the support of the Eastport-South Manor Community for the Arts for their support.  The boys and girls did an amazing job, performing for their classmates and families. We look forward to making the musical a tradition at Dayton Avenue School.

Dayton Avenue School Represents ESM at 14th Annual Celebration of Technology in Education

This year Dayton Avenue School's fourth grade enrichment book discussion groups are focusing on the work of Kylene Beers and Robert Probst from the book, Notice and Note: Strategies for Close Readings.  The students reread and browsed through their book discussion selections to create infographics based on the six signposts that represent significant moments in literature.  This encourages students to read closely and question the text.  The students will be using web 2.0 tools to create the infographics and will also be blogging and commenting during discussion meetings when they come across a signpost in the text.  The creation of infographics and blogging create an online blended environment to the book discussion groups.  Congratulations to everyone involved and a special thank you to Mrs. Zambelli and Mrs. Marone for their collaboration and dedication to our boys and girls.  Boys and girls who presented at Dowling College were commended by all those who went to their presentation. Great job!
