Dayton Avenue Celebrates School District Anniversary

Dayton Avenue School hosted the Board of Education Meeting in January in recognition of the 10th Anniversary of the Eastport-South Manor Central School District.  Students in the band, chorus, and orchestra performed during an Open House hosted from 6pm-7pm.  During the BOE meeting students read investigative articles they wrote on the history of the school district.  Students interviewed faculty and staff, including, Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Mark Nocero.  Also, Emma Danowski, a student member of the Shared Decision Making Team made a  presentation on our Service Learning Curriculum. Lastly, 6th grade students completed a video news report on the growth of the district, which was shown to all in attendance.

Dayton Avenue Spelling Bee

Students in grades 3-6 recently participated in our annual Spelling Bee.  A tremendous amount of hard work went into preparation.  All the students who participated should be proud of their accomplishment.  The 3rd grade Spelling Bee winner was Benjamin Isaacson and the school wide winner representing Dayton Avenue School at Hofstra University was 6th grader Alec Arvidsson.

Dayton Avenue School 5th Grade Students Work with Brookhaven National Laboratory

Dayton Avenue School is working in collaboration with Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in grades 5 and 6.  Scientists from BNL visited Dayton Avenue School recently to work with students on a DNA extraction lab.  This activity will be followed with a visit to BNL in the spring.

Dayton Avenue School Celebrates Parents As Reading Partners

In coordination with the South Manor PTA, Dayton Avenue School sponsored our annual Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) month.  Students were encouraged to make reading a family affair and were given daily challenges to promote reading at home.  We are grateful to the SMPTA for their support of our 6th Grade Circus and culminating PARP magic show.
