Designing Center Pieces Through Literature

Students in Mrs. Lukas, Mrs. Bobal's, Mr. Edwards, and Ms. Drost's classes designed center pieces for the dining room table using recycled books.  Students placed special messages of thanks on each of their center pieces.


Suffolk County Police Department & ESM Present: "The Ugly Truth"


In coordination with the Suffolk County Police Department and Eastport-South Manor Central School District will be presenting, "The Ugly Truth" - What Parents Need to Know regarding  Heroin & Prescription Drug Abuse.  The presentation will be held at the Junior-Senior High School on Monday, December 14th at 6:30pm.

Mrs. Tester's Class Write Native American Tales

Students in Mrs. Tester's class used their understanding of Native American culture and language to tell their own stories.

Dayton Avenue School Support No Shave November

Boys and girls at Dayton Avenue School raised money to support the fight against Brain Cancer during No Shave November.  Brave faculty members donated their faces to the cause.  Our children made a difference in fighting this awful disease through their contributions.  I want to extend a debt of gratitude to Mr. Weiss for orchestrating the event and also thank the many faces who made this happen: Mr. Dippel, Mr. Henderson, Mr. Hayes, Mr. Longo, Mr. Litto, Mr. Vignona, Mr. Edwards, Mr. Elmore, Mr. Hynes, Mr. Weiss, and Mr. Combs.  Students raised nearly $700.00 to support the American Brain Tumor Association.

Mrs. Rubin's 3rd Grade Students Create Thanksgiving Day Cards

Students in Mrs. Rubin's class gave thanks to those at Gurwin Nursing Home by creating Thanksgiving Day cards to be delivered to residents.

4th Grade Visits Hoyt Farm


Students in 4th grade as part of the social studies curriculum recently visited Hoyt Farm as they explored the lives of Long Island Native Americans.  This is a hands-on field trip that students enjoy.

Leader in Me at Dayton Avenue

The entire faculty and staff are participating in a book club as we continue to integrate Dr. Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Happy Kids and Highly Effective Teens. The Leader in Me provides the blueprint for schools to implement this universal principles for success in life and school.  We are excited to embark on this journey together.

Dayton Avenue Students are Super!



Faculty, students, and staff celebrated the power of doing what is right, helping others, following expectations, and being kind which are components of our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support system.  Captain America is the unofficial Assistant Principal at Dayton Avenue School. Faculty, students, and staff dressed as Captain America for the day.

Hands-on Spooky Science Experiments in Mrs. Kerins Class

Students in Mrs. Kerins 3rd grade class participated in a truly hands-on science experiment to end October.  This was an engaging and challenging lesson that had students working collaboratively.
