PBIS and 7 Habits of Happy Children


Students in 3rd grade are working on the integration of the 7 Habits of Happy Children with our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) system.  Students in 3rd grade are singing portions of the new 7 Habits Dayton Avenue School Anthem each morning.  Friday, students will sing the entire song.

Dayton Avenue School PBIS Kick-Off Assembly

Students at Dayton Avenue School celebrated PBIS Spirit Week, culminating in our Annual PBIS Kick-Off assembly.  This year Dr. Christie was joined by his Assistant Principal, Captain America and his Dean of Students, Captain America Mr. Potato Head.  Both administrators provided Shark Bites to students for demonstrating Safe, Honest, Accountable, Respectful, Kind, and Successful expectations (SHARKS).  Our 6th grade students were empowered to demonstrate each of these expectations through various skits.  The 6th grade also integrated the 7 Habits of Happy Children into their performance.  Next week the Shark Shack will be open for business.  We are off to a great start to the school year.

Dayton Avenue Open House


Families in grades 3 through 6 had an opportunity to meet their child's teacher this evening at Dayton Avenue School.  We are excited to share the many great things taking place this year.  We look forward to preparing our boys and girls to enter the 21st Century ready to succeed in school and life.

PBIS Shark Spirit Week!

Students throughout Dayton Avenue School are embracing the 6 facets of our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support system which include; Safe, Honest, Accountable, Respectful, Kind, and Successful behavior (SHARKS).  This Friday we will have our PBIS kick-off assembly.  The week of activities coincides with the Junior-Senior High School Spirit Week and Homecoming festivities.  Today is College Day at Dayton Avenue School.  Our 3rd grade students are already thinking ahead as they stand with Dr. Christie in the Library Media Center.

Mrs. Defeo's Class Works on Team Building!

Students in Mrs. Defeo's 3rd grade class integrating math and science into a team building activities.  Students were placing dice into an aluminum boat.  Students worked collaborative and made educated guesses on how many dice they could place int their boats before they sank.

Dayton Avenue School Celebrates Constitution Day

Students in grades 3 through 6 celebrated Constitution Day.  Students took part in a virtual field trip sponsored by Discovery Education. Students also worked on the creation of classroom Constitutions that integrated our PBIS expectations.  

7 Habits Anthem!

Students in 3rd grade are developing a Dayton Avenue School song for the 7 Habits of Happy Children.  Stay tuned for the release of their video next week.

Dayton Avenue Students Honor our Nation

Boys and Girls from Mrs. Hassett's chorus sang the National Anthem as Dayton Avenue School commemorates 9/11 by participating in the National Day of Remembrance and Service.  Students wore their patriotic Red, White, and Blue to symbolize the freedom we all enjoy.

Integrating Technology and Collaborating in 6th Grade!

Students in Mr. Longo and Mrs. Grieco's class are integrating portions of Google for Education into their class as they utilize Dell 2 in 1 laptops.  In Mrs. Montreuil and Mrs. Skidmore's class students are examining their understanding of ecosystems utilizing a hands-on activity.

4th Grade Students Focus on Being Proactive!

Mrs. McGinness and her 4th grade class work together to identify ways they can be Proactive in the classroom, home, cafeteria, and bus. Dayton Avenue School is integrating the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People into our PBIS system.  

Khan Academy in 6th Grade Math

Students are utilizing Khan Academy to differentiate their learning and challenge themselves independently.  We look forward to continuing our use of Khan to support math instruction at school and home.

Students Return to Dayton Avenue School

The doors opened on the 2015-2016 school year.  We were excited to welcome our 3rd grade students and welcome back our boys and girls in grades 4, 5, and 6.  We look forward to integrating technology across our curriculum as we prepare boys and girls for what they need to know and be able to do in order to succeed in the 21st century.  We are also excited to integrate both Service Learning and the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People into our already successful PBIS system.

Dayton Avenue School is Ready to Open!

On behalf of the entire faculty and staff we want to welcome you to the 2015-2016 school year.  We are so excited to open our doors on Tuesday, September 8th.  We have a number of exciting initiatives this year.  One of them includes integrating the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People into our already existing PBIS system.  Throughout the school students will be provided a visual introduction to the 7 Habits.  Later this year we will begin integrating the 7 Habits into our curriculum.
