Technology Integration at Dayton Avenue School

Students throughout Dayton Avenue School are integrating 21st century learning skills and technology into their daily lives.  Students are utilizing Khan Academy, Castle Learning, Xtramath, Classroom Dojo and more to support their learning.  Sixth grade students are utilizing the Dell 2 in 1 computers in Writers Workshop as they prepare their feature articles.

History Alive in 3rd Grade

Students in Mrs. Rubin's class incorporated Dell 2 in 1 computers and Social Studies/ELA integrated web based curriculum into their research and study of government.  This form of instruction gives students ownership over their learning.

Digital Media Citizenship at Dayton Avenue School

For the second consecutive year Dayton Avenue School will be recognized as a Common Sense Media: Digital Media Citizenship School.  The school has to complete a rigorous process that includes the Library Media Specialist and all students completing lessons through the integration of Common Sense Media curriculum.  We take seriously the importance of teaching our children appropriate use of computers and digital/social media.

Celebrating Irish Heritage

Students in 4th grade not only celebrated their Souper Bowl victory with a pizza party they recognized Irish Heritage on St. Patrick's Day.  Students in Mrs. McGuire's class, including Bridie McGuire joined in the festivities.

Friday Night Lights

Unlike the football tradition in Texas, Dayton Avenue School students finish their week with Friday Flashlight Reading.  Mrs. VanTronk's class was kind enough to invite Dr. Christie in to enjoy a good book on a Friday afternoon.  The learning environment established by Mrs. VanTronk, Mrs. Orlando, and Ms. Lucia is amazing.

Dayton Avenue School Science Fair

Dayton Avenue School students in grades 3 through 6 participated in the annual Science Fair.  Students followed the guidelines established by the Brookhaven National Laboratory and science teachers from the Junior-Senior High School judged the projects.  Winning projects at each grade level represent Dayton Avenue School at Brookhaven National Laboratory Science Fair.
